Sheila Ann Gum

July 13, 1937 ~ June 18, 2024
Sheila Ann Gum, a loving wife and mother, passed away on June 18, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Sheila was born on July 13, 1937, in Howard, Kansas to Howard and Treva Hasty. She departed this world in Wichita, Kansas, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that will be remembered by all.
Sheila grew up in Planeview, Kansas, where she attended MacArthur Elementary School and graduated from Planeview High School. Her early education laid the foundation for a life characterized by a strong work ethic and a commitment to community. Sheila's professional journey led her to a fulfilling career as a sales associate at Sears and later at Miracle Ear, where her personable nature and dedication to customer satisfaction earned her the respect and affection of her colleagues and clients alike.
Sheila married the love of her life, Glenn Gum, and together they built a family rooted in love. Sheila was a loving mother to her daughters, Glenna (Brian Haney) and Vicki (Bob Taton). She adored her sister, Dixie (Joe Goff), and her brother, Dale Hasty (Enid). Sheila's role as a grandmother and great-grandmother was one of her greatest joys, and she leaves behind four grandchildren; Ashley Scheufler (Jason), Kyle Haney (Melissa), Casey Taton, and Dusty Taton (Laurien). She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her deeply.
Sheila's interests and hobbies were a reflection of her zest for life. She was an avid collector of depression glass and other antiques, always on the lookout for the next treasure to add to her collection. She was a member of the Wichita Glass Gazers; a depression glass club devoted to the collection, preservation and education of depression glass. She also volunteered at the National Depression Glass Museum in Wellington, KS. She enjoyed country western dancing and aerobics. Sheila also relished the opportunity to travel, experiencing new places and making new friends.
One of Sheila's most cherished traditions was water skiing on Table Rock Lake during the annual family reunion. These gatherings were a highlight of her year, filled with laughter, storytelling, and the joy of being surrounded by her loved ones.
She lived a life full of purpose and joy, and her memory will be cherished in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A private graveside service will be held for family members.
