Shirley Ann Fox, age 94, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026. Born on February 29, 1932, in Wichita, Kansas.  Shirley lived a life marked by kindness, grace, and humor, with a deep devotion to her family and friends.

Shirley was known for her warm spirit and genuine compassion for others. She had a remarkable ability to lift others up, leaving people feeling valued, appreciated, and better for having crossed her path. Her life reflected a quiet strength and enduring faith, expressed through everyday acts of care and generosity.

Shirley found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved gardening, taking pride in nurturing flowers and watching them bloom. Music brought her comfort and happiness, often filling her home and her heart. She was also an avid reader who found both relaxation and inspiration in books, always eager to learn and explore new ideas.

As scripture reminds us, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1). Shirley lived as a reflection of that light, bringing warmth and comfort to all who knew her.

In her final days, Shirley’s spirit remained strong and joyful. Just days before her passing, she played her weekly bridge game as usual—and won. On the day she passed, she was alert and joking with her daughters. She was surrounded by her son, James, his wife Chen, and her daughters, Julie and Jan.

Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, James Fox and his wife Chen; her daughters, Julie Hall and her husband Will, and Jan Fox-Petersen and her partner Dan Stockemer; her son-in-law, Fred Petersen; her special friend, Karen Slattery; as well as seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Fox, in 2007; her father, Perry Eash, in 1993; her mother, Iona Eash, in 1959; her brother, Roger Eash, in 2001; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Fox, in 1986.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 7th at 1:00 PM at Prairie Hill Vineyard, 3660 North 215th Street West, Colwich, Kansas 67030.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I was fortunate to have worked with Shirley in the Clerks Office in the courthouse. She was in charge of
the Criminal & Appeals Division. I worked in Domestic at the time, but we were all in the same office.
Some of my fondest memories are seeing her smile, asking how we all were and telling us if any of us ever
needed to talk her door was open. Bill popped in quite often and there love was obvious. I had often wandered what happened after she retired, but I’m so glad she enjoyed her life like she did. She will always be remembered by me as a kind, sweet soul.

  2. Although I didn’t have the pleased of meeting Shirley, the kindness and compassion that I read about in her obituary is certainly evident in her daughter, Julie. She must have been a lovely and loving woman.
    Rest in Peace, Shirley.

  3. I was never able to meet Shirley, but her glow of warmth and integrity continues through her daughter, Jan!!

  4. I’m sure you, Janet and family, will miss Shirley terribly, but also feel blessed having had her with you all these years. I knew your mom when I was a teen, she had a quiet strength and positive outlook that was a wonderful influence on me.

  5. I got to know Shirley at the bridge studio where I often played and where my husband, Alan, taught classes. I would occasionally sub in one of her “groups”.
She was a delight to know and I always appreciated her keen sense of humor.
She will be missed. My sympathy to her
family and all her bridge cohorts.
    Sincerely and with love,
    Loretta Phares

  6. Shirley was Always glad to see me…and told me so. Gracious..kind and fun. I loved this elegant lady..

  7. This woman is as close to a mother as I will ever have. I have missed her every day for the past few years. But when I needed her, she was always there. I can sincerely say that I would not be here today without her in my life for 25 years. Bill, Karen and Shirley gave me back my life when things went bad and I will always be grateful to them all.

  8. I met Shirley when I was in graduate school & working at the courthouse. She was such a lady in both appearance & demeanor, and so open & available to everyone. After I left the courthouse, we went out to dinner many times. She was such a good friend, & I will miss her always. I love you, sweet Shirley.

  9. Shirley’s friendship goes back to the 80’s when we met through a mutual friend. We had a connection through shopping and music and shared many adventures. Shopping and music took us to local concerts, trips to Florida and Florence, Italy. We enjoyed many celebrations with friends and family.
