Shirley Ann (Gehrer) Miner, 90, passed away Wednesday morning on the 11th of October. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rose Gehrer; her husband, S. Donald “Steve” Miner; and her brothers Robert and Ronald Gehrer. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Gehrer; sisters, Rosemarie Kinderknecht Vogel and Jane Balthazor (Keith); daughters, Stephanie Smith (Brad) and Gina Hollingshead (Roger); son, Stephen Miner; granddaughters, Meagan Alderson (John) and Ashley Nicole Smith; three great-grandsons, Miles, Atlas, and John Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.Born October 31, 1932, in Wichita, KS. Shirley was a devoted Catholic entering the convent while attending Cathedral High School. Deciding it was not her calling, she left and shortly after met her husband of 54 years, Steve Miner.She was very active in her parish at Magdalen, singing in the choir and playing the organ. She tended the gardens and was well known as the “flower lady” having done flowers for the altar and for many brides over the years. She remained an avid gardener which shows to this day in her front yard.To stay closer to home, she transferred to St. Thomas when Magdalen was relocated. She was also a strong supporter of Holy Savior, St. Anthony’s, and Dear Neighbor Ministries.Shirley was a long-time collector of antiques and religious objects. She will be remembered for her talent for creating uniquely beautiful pieces from things old or discarded.Rosary, 5:00 pm, Sunday, October 15, 2023, Funeral Mass, 10:00 am, Monday, October 16, 2023, both at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Memorials have been established with Harry Hynes Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202; St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1321 N. Stratford, Wichita, KS 67206, and Holy Savior Catholic Church, 3000 E. 13th Street North, Wichita, KS 67214. Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.

  1. Back in the 1980’s Shirley did the flowers for all the Weathersby sister’s weddings. We all have great memories of Shirley. Very sweet lady with incredible talent. Our flowers and Shirley were beautiful!
