Tom T. Wallace, 76, died June 9th, 2026, surrounded by love and family.

Born on October 15th, 1949, in Springfield Missouri. In 1952, soon after the birth of his baby brother Arland, the Wallace family packed up and moved to Wichita, Ks. After graduating East High School in 1967, where he ran on the Track team, Tom attended Wichita State University briefly in 1968, pledging with Delta Sigma Phi. Tom soon joined the Naval Reserves in 1969 and saw active duty in Hawaii from 1970 to 1972, during the Vietnam War era. Tom remained in the Reserves until 1975, obtaining the rank of E-5 2nd Class Petty Officer, Quartermaster – Assistant to Navigator.

Returning to Wichita, Tom became owner and president of Mercury Printing in 1972. Over the next two decades, Mercury Printing earned a reputation in quality and craftsmanship. Starting in 1993, Tom transitioned to Printing Inc., also in Wichita Kansas; working as VP of Production Management and VP of Sales/Marketing. Tom continued working in the printing business until semi-retiring in 2018.

Always drawn to the water, Tom spent many summer months with friends and family water skiing, fishing, or just relaxing under the sun. Fond memories are often shared of the family houseboat trips to Table Rock Lake, Eldorado Lake, and the Ozarks.

An avid sports fan, Tom held season tickets and supported both WSU Shocker baseball and basketball for over three decades. Tom bowled in league play, hunted all across the country, and played golf any chance he could get. He also heavily supported his children and grandchildren’s athletic contributions, most especially the travel baseball team that his son, Sean Mermis, played on, named after his printing company and his favorite team, the Mercury Yankees.

Thomas is preceded in death by his father, Ted Wallace and mother, Mildred (Thomas) Wallace; and brother, Arland L. Wallace.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Wallace of Wichita, Ks; his children Sean Mermis and Shane Wallace with wife Shanna Berry; and Meghan Wallace; and grandchildren, Kurt Mermis, Dakota Wallace and Syler Peany Wallace. And of course his best friend and loyal dog, Mickey.

Tom will be remembered as a man who inspired those around him to love what you do, ride the waves with a smile, and enjoy the breeze. And to always go your own way.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 19, 2026, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary; 6555 E Central Ave, Wichita Ks. Military services will follow afterwards at Ascension Cemetery; located at 7200 E 45th St N, Bel Aire.

The family would also like to thank the Harry Hynes Hospice Hospital’s amazing staff for their care and guidance.

Guestbook

  1. RIP, Tommy, my friend! I have so many memories of our time together that I will always cherish.

Cabo, Argentina, Ciudad de Obregon, Key West, Honolulu, etc., etc.

    I will never forget you!!!

  2. Rest in Peace, Tom. I regarded you as a good friend. Together we weathered the ups and downs of graphic design and printing. You ran a good shop. You helped Bob Neace Graphic Design whenever needed. Go catch some fish. Shoot some birds. Bomb some drives down the middle, buddy boy.

  3. I’m so sorry to hear this news. I always enjoyed Tom and the whole family when we would come and watch football at your house. So many good times with lots of laughter. My prayers for you all.

  4. We’re all going to miss you, Tom. Some of the best memories of my childhood come from playing in your house as a child and growing up with your amazing children.

All my love to Jeanne, Shane, and Meghan!!

  5. Jeanne, Shane and Meghan,

    You are in our thoughts.

  6. I am so shocked to hear that Tom has passed. I have so many memories or him. He was always so much fun and he liked everyone he met. But he was also a person who would listen when someone needed to talk. I miss you Tom. Rest in Peace.

  8. I just found out about Tom’s passing. I was reaching out to see if he wanted to go to lunch. Tom you will be greatly missed but I have many fond memories! You definitely were one of the good guys!!! RIP.

  9. Just found out about Tom’s passing. He was a great guy & friend from our time running cross country & track at East.

Always fun catching up with him at reunions.

  10. I was thinking of my time at mercury printing and my best boss ever Tom Wallace. So I went to Google his name and I was floored to learn of his passing. I can still remember the first time that I met him,I had been hired to be the delivery driver and I was sweeping the floor in the bindery area and he came up and introduced himself to me and welcomed me to the company. I always took advantage of his kindness when he would offer me wichita state tickets, and tickets to the sky box for wranglers baseball games. My friends and myself all have fond memories of those games. And how Tom treated all of them with a special kindness. I feel terrible not keeping in touch with Tom and letting him and Jeannie know how much the memories of mercury printing days brings a smile to my face. And memories knowing of Sean also, lol. My love to the Wallace Family. People are never gone when you carry them in your heart. God Bless
