Eugene "Gene" S. Fields III

Gene Fields, 73, went to his heavenly home on September 22, 2026, surrounded by his family.  A celebration of his life will be held Monday, September 28, 2026, 10:00am, at Asbury Church, Wichita, KS. Private burial service will be held.

Eugene was born on October 27, 1952, in Washington, DC, to Eugene S. Fields, Jr and Lorena Dolorzie Fields. His early life was spent in Georgia and Alabama, before coming to Kansas at age 12. Gene attended many schools in his childhood and graduated from Campus High School in 1971. Gene attended Wichita State University and worked in the family business, Gene Fields Mobile Homes. Gene was introduced to Marilyn (Lewis) by her cousin, Sherri, in 1971. They married in 1973 and welcomed Brooke Danielle, their first-born, in 1979. Lindsay Dawn was welcomed to the family in 1983 and Gene loved being a girl dad. Gene loved the Lewis family and especially his relationship with his Father-in-law, L.D. He began working at W.W. Grainger, Inc as a counter person. He eventually moved into sales and ended his career with Grainger as an Account Manager specializing in aerospace. He was very successful and attained the Presidents Club award four times. Gene retired at age 61, but it was short-lived. Gene proposed an idea for a small business involving guns and woodwork to his brother Mal. Hence, Black Guns Woods was started making walnut gunstock parts for long rifles. This was a very successful business venture, but most importantly gave the brothers daily talks and business meetings usually involving cheeseburgers.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, and best friend, Bobby Johnson. He is survived by wife, Marilyn; children, Brooke (Kris) Fields-Ethridge, Lindsay (David) Davis; grandchildren, Luke Ethridge, Grace Ethridge, Piper Davis, Lylah Davis, Elijah Ethridge, Shelby Davis and Millie Gene Davis; siblings, Steph (Basil) Fields- Bova, Malcolm (Lisa) Fields, Owen (Donna) Fields, Andy Fields. He is also survived by godsons, Brandon Lewis and Max and Sam Fields; chosen daughter, Abby Betzen; and many cherished family members and friends.

Gene will be dearly missed but his memory and stories will live on in the lives of those he touched.
