Eugene was born on October 27, 1952, in Washington, DC, to Eugene S. Fields, Jr and Lorena Dolorzie Fields. His early life was spent in Georgia and Alabama, before coming to Kansas at age 12. Gene attended many schools in his childhood and graduated from Campus High School in 1971. Gene attended Wichita State University and worked in the family business, Gene Fields Mobile Homes. Gene was introduced to Marilyn (Lewis) by her cousin, Sherri, in 1971. They married in 1973 and welcomed Brooke Danielle, their first-born, in 1979. Lindsay Dawn was welcomed to the family in 1983 and Gene loved being a girl dad. Gene loved the Lewis family and especially his relationship with his Father-in-law, L.D. He began working at W.W. Grainger, Inc as a counter person. He eventually moved into sales and ended his career with Grainger as an Account Manager specializing in aerospace. He was very successful and attained the Presidents Club award four times. Gene retired at age 61, but it was short-lived. Gene proposed an idea for a small business involving guns and woodwork to his brother Mal. Hence, Black Guns Woods was started making walnut gunstock parts for long rifles. This was a very successful business venture, but most importantly gave the brothers daily talks and business meetings usually involving cheeseburgers.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, and best friend, Bobby Johnson. He is survived by wife, Marilyn; children, Brooke (Kris) Fields-Ethridge, Lindsay (David) Davis; grandchildren, Luke Ethridge, Grace Ethridge, Piper Davis, Lylah Davis, Elijah Ethridge, Shelby Davis and Millie Gene Davis; siblings, Steph (Basil) Fields- Bova, Malcolm (Lisa) Fields, Owen (Donna) Fields, Andy Fields. He is also survived by godsons, Brandon Lewis and Max and Sam Fields; chosen daughter, Abby Betzen; and many cherished family members and friends.
Gene will be dearly missed but his memory and stories will live on in the lives of those he touched.

Eugene wasn’t just a nice guy, a good guy he was a great person who loved his wife, his daughters, his grandchildren and his entire family.
All the people that love him are not just sad and their heartbroken.
This man is definitely in heaven and I’m so sorry that Eugene had to suffer.

On behalf of the Asbury Genesis Sunday School Class we will miss Gene’s wit, testimony and quotations. He was a dear friend to all and we celebrate his homegoing to heaven. Our prayers are with Marilyn and the family.
Marilyn, Brooke, Lindsay and Family I am deeply saddened by the pain with Gene’s passing. I’m comforted by the thought of him in heaven looking down with pride of his beloved family and friends
I am endlessly grateful for the 42 years of being greeted by his “hey guy how’s it going” phrase that my kids still use when we speak of him. Gene always wanted to learn and stay in tune with his friends lives so you know he cared.
Gene possessed a natural gift to make everyone comfortable, relaxed and feel loved.
Very blessed to have had many deep life talks, shared laughter and will miss the quiet support we shared.
Being your friend was one of the greatest gifts of my life.” You cared and taught me how to care for others in the life journey.
Your physical presence, servitude leadership example and calm demeanor will be missed. Great full to have learned so much from you and blessed with our friendship.
Rest in peace, my dear friend. You will be missed beyond words, but your spirit will live on in our hearts always.”

Eugene was an extraordinary man named after his extraordinary father, Eugene Fields, Jr.
Because we were step brothers reared apart from each other during our childhoods, I regrettably didn’t have much time to grow up with and to learn from him.
But, in spite of those years of separation, I grieve for this loss as deeply as his devoted wife, Marilyn, their admirable daughters, Brooke and Lindsay, and my two other outstanding brothers, Malcolm and Owen.
Please rest in Peace, Gene. May God Bless and Protect all of your loved ones who will always think of you in loving remembrance.
In follow up to my earlier comments today, I am extremely apologetic and remoresful for not mentioning and including our wonderful and only sister, Stephana, among those grieving for our late brother, Eugene S. Fields, III. My most profound apolgies for not including you in my letter above, Stephana. God Bless and Protect you and your family on your return home to Seattle.
What a precious moment, in knowing that the transition from earth to heaven is something that God Himself has orchestrated. What a day that will be!
Ruthanne and I will be praying for family and friends. All that God has promised will be powerfully fulfilled by God himself.
What He has promised, will be fully prepared and our longing above all else is to live on this earth to live eternally in heaven
This is our prayer for all of you.

Gene was a mentor and close friend. I do miss our conversations and annual trips to the Starbird/Devin Car Show at Century II! The world is a sadder place without Gene I it.
