Dale Churchman

Dale Churchman passed away September 17, 2026, at the age of 91.
Dale graduated from Wichita State University. He enjoyed a long and rewarding career in education at Goddard Schools where he was a teacher and guidance counselor. He was also a beekeeper, clockmaker, candlemaker, and rebuilt and repaired pianos… in his spare time!
Outside of the classroom, he was dedicated to restoring the Kansas Firefighters Museum where he is an Honorary Board Member. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Flora; wife, Vicki Churchman; brothers, Donald and Charles Churchman; granddaughters, Janelle Churchman and Skylar Cook.
He is survived by sons, Mike Churchman, John Churchman; daughter, Sheri (Hai) Pham; stepson, Jason (Heather) Cook; grandchildren, Matt Churchman, Sterling Cokeley, Thomas Pham, Marissa Kouns, Nicholas Pham, Christopher Pham, Stevie Churchman, Macks Cook, Haley Cook; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 21, 2026, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Goddard, KS.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Firefighters Museum, 1300 S. Broadway St, Wichita, KS 67211.

He was a great history teacher and inspired my ambition to be a history teacher. I will forever feel grateful I had him as a teacher
Large classes are always difficult to engage students. He was excellent at doing this through thru his knowledge of history, sense of humor, and drawing material from outside the textbook (particularly political cartoons and information that contradicted the textbook). I have often thought of him over the years since high school with appreciation, especially when hearing others complaining of the “poor quality of history teaching in US schools”. He was a great teacher who made a difference.
