“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.”
— Matthew 25:40
Dorothy Biggs, 78, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026. Those who knew her will remember a woman whose life was shaped, above all, by love — a caring and gentle soul who devoted herself to the comfort and wellbeing of others.
Dorothy found her calling as a Registered Nurse, caring for patients at St. Joseph and St. Francis hospitals throughout her career. Nursing was more than a profession to her; it was a true reflection of who she was. She met each patient with tenderness and compassion, offering not only skilled care but also the reassurance of a kind word and a warm presence. To care for others in their most vulnerable moments was, for Dorothy, both a passion and a privilege.
That same loving spirit filled her home and her relationships. She gave of herself freely and without reservation, wrapping her family and friends in warmth, patience, and unwavering devotion. Whether at a bedside or a kitchen table, Dorothy had a gift for making others feel cared for, valued, and loved. Her legacy is one of kindness — the kind that lives on in every life she touched.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Marcella Sanders; her husband, P. Dean Biggs; and her son, Jason Biggs.
She is survived by her son, Troy (Jenny) Biggs of Kansas; her grandchildren, Jack Biggs and Sydney Biggs; her siblings, Jerry (Sue) Sanders of South Carolina, LaVerne (Pam) Sanders of Kansas, Mary (Mark) Thiessen of Texas, and Carl (Maurie) Sanders of Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., both on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at St. Jude Catholic Church. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. that same day at Lyons City Cemetery in Lyons, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Guadalupe Clinic, 940 South St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas 67211.
Services are in the care of Downing & Lahey West Mortuary.
