Dorothy Inez Bellinger, 101, died July 4, 2026. Born March 20, 1925 on a farm in Ellsworth Kansas, the oldest of 5 children born to William B. and Ruth Marie (Becker) Handlin. After high school she married and moved to N.Y. for a few years where her daughter Eloise was born, then moved to Green Mtn. Falls, Colorado where she sold real estate for approx. 50 years, becoming one of the top real estate sales persons in the area.

After retirement and past divorce, Dorothy moved to Wichita to be close to family.  She loved collecting all kinds of keys, growing flowers, and feeding the birds, especially the hummingbirds. She was also a lifetime member of the Snowflake Chapter Order of the Easter Star.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Eloise and Charles Hayden, sister MaryLou Brown, numerous nieces and nephews and their children and children’s children and a wealth of friends.  Preceded in death by parents, brothers Bill and Ray Handlin and sister Elrene (Evans) Smith.

In lieu of service, Dorothy has requested donations be made to the Ellsworth Senior Center, 115 E. N. Main St., Ellsworth, KS 67439 or the JH Robbins Memorial Library, 219 N. Lincoln Ave., Ellsworth, KS 6767439.

Cremation service was performed at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary, Wichita, KS.

  1. I met Dorothy in 1984 in Cascade Colorado when I bought my house. She was my real estate agent and we became friends when she rented the house out for me until I got a job and got the Hell out of Dodge to move into my house. We continued our friendship and went to many breakfasts together at the Peak Treat. When she decided to move back to Wichita we continued to keep in touch and called and wrote letters. Her last letter said she planned to go out and watch the parade on July 4th. She never lost her beautiful outlook on life and great sense of humor. I am so sad to hear of her passing but it’s appropriate she was watching the fireworks from Heaven on the 250th birthday of America. Fly high and rest in peace, dearest Dorothy ❤️😇

  2. We are saddened to learn of our Sister Dorothy’s passing but know that she is at peace.

    We bow our heads in submission to His will and ask that He abide in the hearts of those who mourn; endue them with the trustful Faith of Martha.

    From our circle, a Golden link has fallen, one by one the chain is lengthened in our Fathers House; and we shall take our place when we have finished our service here.
