Barwick, Dortha Elizabeth, 92, of Wichita, died Monday, April 4, 2005 at Life Care Center of Andover, KS. Visitation 5:00 ~ 7:00 P.M., Thursday, Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Memorial service 1:30 P.M., Friday, Eastminster Presbyterian Chapel. Interment 3:30 P.M., Friday, Riverview Cemetery, Arkansas City, KS. Dortha was born July 13, 1912, in Caney, Kansas, the daughter of Mable and Jacob Froebe. She graduated from high school in Caney and from college at Coffeyville Junior College. She and Ernest Otto Casey were married February 26, 1933 and lived with their children in Arkansas City, Kansas, where he and his partner, Aubrey Foster, were in the furniture business. Dortha assisted with the bookkeeping. Ernest died in 1960. For the next eight years, Mrs. Casey was a college housemother at Alpha Xi Sorority at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas and William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri. On July 27, 1968 she married John Seely Barwick, Wichita. He died in February 2004 at the age of 100. She was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church of Wichita and PEO. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Carol Burton, Topeka, Kansas and Nancy Jane Ullery, Placitas, New Mexico and two step-daughters, Dorothy Ann Pettersen, Wichita, and Elizabeth Lee Ball, San Antonio, Texas. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Kathleen Elise Thorne and Annette Elizabeth Martin, two grandsons, Gregory Alan Schnell and Bradley Otto Schnell and three step-grandsons, John Christopher Pettersen, Keith Alan Pettersen and Robert Cameron Pettersen, and two step-granddaughters, Kristen Marie Ball and Shannon Elizabeth Ball. Great-grandchildren are Nichole Brianne Thorne, Charles Harley Martin, Jason Alan Schnell, Casey Nicole Schnell, Jonah Casey Schnell, Cole Sidney Schnell, Eric Allen Pettersen, Leif Hakon Pettersen, Jennifer Taylor Pettersen and Matthew Barwick Pettersen. A memorial has been established with Eastminster Presbyterian Church 1958 N. Webb Rd., Wichita, KS, 67206. Visitation 5~7 P.M.Thursday, Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Graveside service 3:30 P.M. Friday at Riverview Cemetery, Arkansas City.

  1. Growing up in First Baptist Church in Arkansas City, I remember Dortha well. She and Ernest Casey were friends of my parents Milly & Ivan Upson, and I was a friend of both Patsy and Nancy. I have many memories of the family and wish to send them my love.
