Ernestine M. (Klopfste Ernie Chester

Chester, Ernestine M. “Ernie” (Klopfstein), went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 8, 2006. Services will be held at Downing Lahey Mortuary East at 1:00 P.M., Monday, October 16, 2006. Ernie was born in Wichita on March 13, 1919, the first child of Ernest and Ethel (Yandle) Klopfstein. She graduated from Wichita East High School in 1937 and from the University of Wichita in 1941, earning a degree in Education. While in College, Ernie was the President of Pi Kappa Psi Sorority, a member of the Pan Hellenic Council and Vice-President of Kappa Delta Pi, a national honor society in education. She worked briefly teaching in Marion, KS, before marrying Herbert B. Chester, Jr. in 1942. Ernie was a wonderful homemaker and cook. She loved good conversation, talking about her children, and enjoying family gatherings. She also actively helped her husband run their family business, Chesters Phillips 66 Service Station. Ernie is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Walter and sister, Shirley, and by one great-grandson, Dayton Weiss. Survivors include her husband, Herbert of Garden Plain, her brother, John Klopfstein of Dayton, OH, brother-in-law, Ray Travis of Shell Knob, MO, son, Larry of Kettering, OH, daughter, Janalee (Jack) Weiss of Garden Plain; grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew and Kari, great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ryan, Alexis, Briana and Madison and numerous nieces and nephews.
