Werner, George A., 86, died Friday, September 1, 2006. Visitation 6:00 ~ 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Service 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 6, Central Community Church, with 2:30 P.M. interment in Bean Cemetery, Little River, KS. George was born October 8, 1919 in Dorrance, KS to Albert and Bertha (Howell) Werner. He graduated from Silver Lake High School. George served in the US Navy during WWII and the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from Federal Civil Service at Ft. Riley in 1970 and from KSU in 1984. He owned and operated a livestock farm for a number of years in Riley County, KS. George was a Life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Manhattan, KS. He was a Scoutmaster in Riley, KS for five years. George was preceded in death by brothers, Nathan and Fred and sister, Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife, Wanda, a son, Cole and wife Corinne, of Ozark, MO, a daughter, Denise King and husband, Kevin of Maple Grove, MN, five grandchildren, a sister, Mickie Wentworth and husband Strat, of Carlsbad, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials have been established with Motivators Class of Central Community Church, 6100 W. Maple, Wichita, KS, 67209 and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS, 67202. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
