Ignatius Aloysius “Nashe” O’Shaughnessy, 87, passed away peacefully at his Nisswa, Minnesota home on April 23, 2026 while in the care of his home care and hospice team. A Rosary Vigil will be held at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, Thursday, May 28, 2026 both at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Wichita, Kansas. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.

Nashe was born November 23, 1938 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of John F. and Lucille R. (Weigand) O’Shaughnessy. He was the grandson of I.A. and Lillian G. O’Shaughnessy of St. Paul, Minnesota and J.P. and Agnes Weigand of Wichita, Kansas. The oldest of ten children, he attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School in Wichita, followed by St. Thomas Academy in St. Paul and graduated in 1956. He attended the University of Notre Dame before transferring to the University of St. Thomas and graduated in 1962 with a degree in Business Administration.

Nashe will be missed by those who loved and knew him. He will be remembered for his intelligence; his quiet, gentle spirit; his kind, generous nature, and warm smile. His wide range of interests included poetry, mathematics, history and other challenging subjects, which he enjoyed studying throughout his life surrounded by nature in Northern Minnesota while enjoying his favorite pastime: fishing for bass and walleyes. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others, whether teaching chess, how to water ski, or tying his historical perspectives to the current world.

Nashe was preceded in death by his father, John; mother, Lucille; brothers, John and Brian; sister, Mary; brother-in-law, Lee Young; nephew, Timothy; and Jeanie (nephew J. Patrick’s wife). He is survived by his siblings, Larry, Patrick (Kathy), Gerry (Priscilla), Kevin, Maureen Young, Michele (Mike) Traeger, and sister-in-law, Cheryl (John’s wife); 18 nephews and nieces.

Guestbook

  1. It was an honor and privilege to know Nash. His kind gentle soul will always bring sweet memories to mind. I think of him often and remember simple, cherished moments of his wit and extensive knowledge on so many subjects. Rest in peace in the arms of our Savior, Jesus, until we meet again.
