James “Jim” D. Kobbe, 64, died Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
He was born on May 10, 1962, in Wichita, KS. Jim grew up in Douglass and graduated from Douglass High School and the University of Kansas. He had careers as a sports broadcaster, most notably at KWCH-TV and KSN-TV in Wichita, and as a Human Resources representative at Boeing and Spirit Aerosystems in Wichita.
Jim is survived by his stepfather, Frank Baker of Gulfport, MS; sister, Jackie (Larry) Combs of Wichita; brother, Bryant McLaren of Friendswood, TX; brother, Chuck (Cindy) Kobbe of Monkton, MD; 8 nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.

His loss is immense, his legacy immeasurable; and he would likely be embarrassed to see himself described in this way. Jim was a force of positivity for many and always there for me. I was blessed to call him my friend for many, many years and will miss him so
much. My sympathies to all mourning his passing and especially to his family of whom he spoke often and fondly. Peace to the hearts of all. Rest easy, Kobra!
