James "Jim" Moore

James “Jim” Moore, 83, died September 9, 2026.

Jim was born February 27, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, MO. Growing up in Wichita, he loved basketball, track and cross country and participated in all throughout high school. It was during his youth that he was introduced to music, which became his true love and passion in life. Anyone that knew him knows he was the “go to person” for any music, sports or random trivia fact.

He graduated from Wichita North High School and later from Wichita State University with both a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Education. Jim began his career teaching in the Shawnee Mission school system in Kansas City and continued that career for a number of years in both teaching and administration positions throughout the Wichita School District. After leaving USD 259, he was Executive Director of the Wichita State University Alumni Association, followed by a directorship at the Wichita State University Endowment Association. He proudly retired from the Wichita Community Foundation in 2009 after 17 years serving as the Executive Director.  He was a lifelong Wichita State fan and supporter of OU football.

Above all, he was a deeply selfless man whose highest priority was his family. Dad and Grampy were the titles he was most proud of and you would often find him in the stands at countless ball games and dance recitals.

James is preceded in death by his parents, David and Marjorie Britton; wife, Julie (Wittmann) Moore; son, James “Jamie” Moore.

He is survived by his daughter, Jana (Rodney) Price; daughter-in-law, Kathi Moore; children, Mary Moore, Mike (Toshiko) Moore, Michelle (Tom) Ruge; grandchildren, Lauren Price, Matthew Price, Bobby (Katie) Moore, Julia (John) Aliber, Brian (Kari) Moore, Easton Moore, Erin Gabriel, and Paige Gabriel.

A memorial has been established with the James D. Moore Scholarship Fund c/o Wichita Foundation, 303 S. Broadway, Ste. 101, Wichita, KS 67202. This scholarship was established upon his retirement from the foundation and is awarded to a graduating high school student who is the first generation in their family to attend college and who participated in track & field and/or cross country for at least two years.

A private family service will be held.
