Kennedy, Joseph Winston, 73, Partner with the law firm Morris, Laing, Evans, Brock Kennedy, died Friday, September 9, 2005. Memorial Service Tuesday, September 13, 11:00 A.M., College Hill United Methodist Church. Joe was born in Marshalltown, IA, June 5, 1932 to Roy Wesley and Julia Harriet (Plum) Kennedy. Raised in Marshalltown, Joe attended McPherson College and George Washington Law School where he received his J.D. in 1958. He joined the law firm of Morris, Laing in Wichita in 1958 where he practiced law until his death. Survivors: wife, Terry (Smith) Kennedy; daughters and son-in-law Kim and Gene Claxton, Lenexa, KS; Kam Kennedy, Rochester, MN; step-children, Robert P. and Melissa Smith, Kansas City, MO; Suzanne and Joe Paul, Southlake, TX; and David M. Smith, Hollywood, CA; five grandchildren, Tanner and Tucker Claxton, Lyle and Oliver Paul, and Jake Smith; sisters, Lois Blackburn, Chapel Hill, NC; Kate Hogancamp, Independence, MO; Patricia Helman, North Manchester, IN. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis, c/o Morris, Laing, Evans, Brock Kennedy, 300 N. Mead St., Suite 200, Wichita, KS 67202-2722. Joe was well loved for his tremendous wit and wisdom. He will be long-remembered and greatly missed. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.

  1. Dear Terry: I’ve had the pleasure of working with Joe on the Kansas Board of Law Examiners and in various legal matters. He was a terrific lawyer and a pillar of the profession. I always enjoyed his humor and warmth, and assure you that the Wichita bar knows it is significantly diminished by his death. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of Joe’s family.
