Karen Elizabeth Crews

Celebrating the life of Karen Elizabeth Crews, born on April 20, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, where she remained a lifelong resident. Karen passed away surrounded by the love of her family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and generosity.

Karen was known for her loving nature, feisty spirit, witty humor, compassionate heart, and generosity. She graduated from North High School and earned an associate degree in Art from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. Karen devoted 40 years to her career in accounting, spending 20 years as a bookkeeper at the Farmers Market and another 20 years at Kansas Gas Service. Additionally, she supported her late husband Michael on their farm, a testament to her enduring dedication and hard work.

A devout member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Karen’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She expressed her creative and giving spirit through various hobbies, including quilting, cooking, gardening, traveling, fishing, antiquing, and being actively involved in her church. Each hobby brought her immense joy, especially when shared with family and friends.

Karen also found great joy and pride in becoming a grandmother, an experience that filled her life with laughter and love. Volunteering at the Lord’s Diner was another way Karen shared her big heart and infectious smile with the community, touching the lives of many.

Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael and her parents, Vernon and Monita Shepherd. She leaves behind a loving family: her daughter, Kira and son-in-law Tim, her grandson, Grant, and brother, Nathan with his wife Carol. Each of them cherishes the memory of a remarkable woman whose life was as rich with accomplishments as it was with love.

Karen’s life was a beautiful tapestry of service, care, and laughter. We will miss her deeply, but we celebrate the countless blessings she brought into our lives. May her memory continue to inspire and guide us.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 am, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 842 N. Tyler Road, Wichita, Kansas. Graveside Service will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Argonia Cemetery, Argonia, Kansas.
