Kathy J. Reyes

Kathy J. Reyes died Sunday, July 26, 2026, in Wichita, KS, at the age of 74. Kathy is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Richard Reyes.  She is survived by her daughter, Jamie Reyes and her husband Aaron Kalina (of Perham, MN), son, Ryan Reyes and his wife Jenna (of Overland Park, KS), and three grandchildren, Harper (12), Theodore (10), and Lachlan (8) Kalina.

Kathy was born in Harper, Kansas, on January 22, 1952, to parents Clarence and Barbara (Reida) Kyle, the third of four children. She is preceded in death by her parents and survived by her brothers Claude (Kristi) Kyle and Gene (Judy) Kyle, and sister Nancy Kyle. Growing up outside Rago, Kansas, Kathy graduated from Kingman High School in 1970, before obtaining her nursing degree from Wichita State University in 1974. Kathy began her 46-year career in nursing as an aide in Great Bend, Kansas, and went on to serve in nursing and supervisory roles in Newton and Wichita, Kansas.  Prior to her retirement in 2018, Kathy was Director of Nursing in cardiac unit 4SW/4SE at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

A dedicated mother and beloved grandmother, Kathy enjoyed visiting her grandchildren in Minnesota, watching granddaughter Harper in dance competitions, and grandsons Theodore and Lachlan play baseball and hockey. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling internationally with daughter Jamie and her family and traveling to Kansas City for adventures with son Ryan and his wife Jenna. Kathy enjoyed baking and gardening, and was an avid sports fan, holding season tickets to Kansas State University football for over 20 years with her husband Richard. A life-long woman of faith, Kathy volunteered in multiple capacities within the church, including adoration volunteer, Eucharistic Minister, as a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Sorrowful Mother, Third Order, and in her most recent role as coordinator of volunteers for funeral dinners at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. A loving and kind soul, Kathy touched countless lives through her work in nursing and engagement with the church.

A Rosary service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 10:00 am, directly proceeding funeral Mass to be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 10:30 am, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Wichita, KS. Kathy will be laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery following Mass.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 South Market, Wichita, Kansas 67202.
