Lois Ann (Alberg) Lander

Lois Ann Alberg Lander beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday morning, August 31, 2026, at the age of 91.

Lois Ann Alberg was born on May 9,1935 in Topeka, Kansas. Lois attended Topeka High School. Following her graduation in 1953, she attended Kansas University, KU, in Lawrence, KS. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Merchandising and met her future husband Delos (Dee) Lander. Lois and Dee graduated from KU in the spring of 1957 and were married on June 8th of that year.

Lois and Dee spent their early years moving around the country starting in Harlingen, TX where Dee served for four years in the US Air Force. While raising a family of four children (Dee Jr, Engrid, John, Sarah) Dee’s career with the Union Carbide Corporation brought them to the east coast with a four year pit stop in Hanover, MA before settling in Ridgewood, NJ where Lois’s life long dream of living in the NYC area became a reality. Upon retirement, Dee and Lois spent 20 years in Hudson, OH before returning back home to Kansas in 2018. Making life long friendships all along the way.

Over the many moves, Lois always created a beautiful and welcoming home. She made friends easily, loved to entertain and host friends and family. Her creative touch shone not only in the home; she was an avid gardener, an accomplished seamstress and refinisher of furniture “extraordinaire”. She was generous sharing her time and talents with friends and family alike. Lois had great style and impeccable taste. As a child of the great depression and WWII Lois developed a gift for using available resources to create beauty throughout her life. Once her children were in school, Lois followed her passion for fashion into the retail world. First as a part-time sales associate in Designer Sportswear for Sealfon’s of Ridgewood, NJ soon becoming the Buyer for the Designer Sportswear department. She finished out her career as a private client stylist with Saks Fifth Avenue in their exclusive Fifth Avenue Club catering to high end clientele.

In retirement, she spent her time volunteering at Laurel Lake Assisted Living center, was active in the Women’s Club of Hudson, OH and involved as member of the local PEO chapter; all while serving as caregiver to her beloved husband, Dee following his stroke in 2007 until his passing in 2022.

Lois was preceded by her loving husband of 65 years, Delos Woods Lander; brothers John A. Alberg and Henry “Hank” B. Alberg Jr; her parents and many other much loved family members and friends.

Our mom and “Grandy” is greatly missed and will remain in the hearts of her children: Delos “Dee” (Leslie Pearlson) Lander Jr. of Martha’s Vineyard, MA, Engrid (Bill) Sullivan of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, John (Jackie) Lander of Salem, MA, Sarah Lander of Garden Plain, KS; grandchildren: Ashley (Ryan) Schwede of Steamboat Springs, CO, Lindsey (Ryan Anderson) Lander of Nashville, TN, Billy (Ashlie) Sullivan of Star Valley Ranch, WY, Anna Sullivan of Salt Lake City, UT, Johnny and Noelle Lander of Salem, MA; great grandchildren: Zachary Schwede of Steamboat Spring, CO and Wes Sullivan of Star Valley Ranch, WY; brother Ed (Joyce) Alberg of Topeka, KS, nieces, nephews and many close cousins.

A special thank you to the Compasses Hospice team, especially nurse Susan and aide Arnetta for their support, care and compassion. And a very special thank you to Lynn Reeves for her friendship and loving care.

A private celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2027.
