Monty M. Bednasek, 80, passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family; his final wish was fulfilled.
Monty proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he built a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant at Via Christi St. Francis. Monty met Beverly working together at Via-Christi and were joined in marriage on August 4th, 1990.
Throughout his life Monty was involved with many organizations. Monty was part of the Shriners and enjoyed dressing up as beloved clown “Boomer.” Monty also worked alongside Beverly and devoted many years to TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), helping with organizing events and working as a treasurer, as well as playing different characters/roles for events.
Monty loved spending time traveling, fishing, reading and watching his favorite TV shows. Most of all Monty was also a lifelong, die-hard Kansas State Wildcats fan, cheering or yelling for the Wildcats through every season. There was rarely a time he was not sporting K-State attire.
To those who knew him best, Monty was wonderfully stubborn, undeniably feisty, but fiercely devoted and loyal to the people he loved. His grandchildren will forever smile when they remember family gatherings that became just a little too loud, prompting Grandpa to declare, “That’s the last straw! Will you all be quiet for five seconds?” It became one of those family sayings that will forever bring laughter, even through tears.
Above all else, Monty’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather and great-grandfather. His example of service, perseverance, humor, and unconditional love leaves a legacy that will live on for generations.
Monty was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Martha Bednasek.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Beverly along with his stepdaughters and their families: Amy and Todd Gerbrandt (children Cody, Clayton, Quincy and Alli) (great-grandchildren, Keegan, Jace, Abel, and Wake); Pam and Chad Reed (children Madison and Mason), and Kim and Jason Kirby (children Jordyn and Carter).
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, also at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the kindness, prayers, and support shown during this difficult time. While Monty will be deeply missed, his stories, laughter, and love for his family will continue to be celebrated by all who knew him.
