Paul Sells

Paul Sells, 86, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024. Born in Cairo, Illinois, on May 14, 1938, he was the son of Milton and Anna Sells. His family moved to Wichita with the military, where Paul attended Saint Mary’s Inter-Parochial High School (formerly Cathedral High School), graduating in 1956. Shortly after, he joined the Air Force, proudly serving his country for four years. During his service, Paul married his first wife, Marc Romine, and together they raised three sons. After completing his military duty, Paul briefly worked in the aircraft industry before finding his career in the trucking and transportation sector. He spent many dedicated years in management positions and continued contributing to the industry even into his retirement. In the spring of 1986, Paul married Nancy James (Pacey), becoming a beloved stepfather to her two sons and daughters. Paul’s Catholic faith was central to his life; he was a devoted member of his parishes, the Churches of the Magdalen and Saint Thomas Aquinas. He served as an usher and regularly attended the prayer adoration chapel, until spring 2024. Paul and Nancy enjoyed cherished trips to Cairo, Illinois, often accompanied by his mother, Anna Louise, where they honored family history by visiting local cemeteries where generations of his family rest. Paul had a love for learning and was largely self-taught. A skilled guitarist, he enjoyed playing along to country music and became known as the family’s go-to IT expert, building and repairing computers and even writing his own programs. He was known for his warm spirit, always helping friends and family with any technical needs or troubleshooting. Paul’s generosity extended to his pets, whom he adored, often treating them to special treats just from him. He was a natural problem-solver who enjoyed giving his talents and time to help those in need. Paul will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his sons, David and Christopher Sells; his previous spouse, Marc Jae Romine; and his parents, Milton and Anna Sells. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Sells of Wichita; his son, Mike (Kris) Sells; stepchildren Brian (Amy) James, Jeff (LeighAnn) James, Teresa (Joe) Reed, and Shannon Shayler; 14 grandchildren; and his sisters, Carol Ridder and Joyce Fischer. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. The Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
