Richard "Dick" Terhune Sr.

Celebrating the life of Richard M. Terhune, Sr., fondly known as Dick, who passed away at the age of 83 in his hometown of Wichita, KS on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

Born on November 6, 1942, in Wichita, Dick lived a life marked by devotion to his family and his country, embodying the true spirit of a family-focused and patriotic man.

Dick graduated from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserves, which reflected his love for his country. He married his beloved wife, Carol L Terhune (Goertz), on September 22, 1962. They would have celebrated 64 years of marriage in September.

Professionally, Dick dedicated many years as a driver, working as an over-the-road trucker, with Trailways Bus Lines, and later as a bus driver for the elderly, ensuring he contributed positively to the lives of those around him.

His love for the outdoors was immense; he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and NASCAR. Dick also cherished the moments spent reading and watching Westerns, which provided him peaceful respite and joy.

Dick’s legacy is carried on by his children, Richard M Terhune, II, Marianne E Moore (Christopher), and Michael E Terhune (Stacey); his grandchildren, Calena G Awesome (Lucas), Alexander C Moore, Jacob T Moore, Andrew S Terhune (Tabitha), Samantha K Terhune, and Gabriel D Terhune (Emily); and his eight great-grandchildren, with another cherished addition expected in December. He is also survived by his sisters, Milly Kay (Bill) and Connie (Pete).

Preceded in death by his father, John H Terhune, his mother, Mildred D Terhune (née Edmond), and his brothers, Jack and David Terhune, Dick leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories filled with love, service, and commitment.

Dick’s life was a journey of passion, loyalty, and care, which will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure to know him and be a part of his life’s journey.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am, Friday, August 7, 2026, at All Saints Catholic Church.
