Robert (Bob) Stanley Shields, gge 88, a retired electrical contractor passed away Jan 23, 2023. Bob was born July 11, 1934 in Winfield, KS, the son of William and Marguerite. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Roger R. & Dick, a sister Claudine, two daughters Cynthia & Nancy, and two grandchildren Layla & Jerad (Denise). He is survived by his wife Maxine, son Steven, six grandchildren - Damian, Matt, Benjamin, Adam, Jordan, Steven (Sabrina), eleven great grandchildren, Sarah (Josh), Ashley (Jagger), William, Richard, Heather, Thomas, Benjamin, Jerad, Theo, Natalie, McKayla; two great great grandchildren, Elena, Piper; one sister Karen; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Bob graduated from Udall High School in 1952. He was active in basketball and baseball, but his real love was baseball. He was a great catcher which prompted many people to call him Yogi. As many do he had a dream to be a major league player. Bob married his high school sweetheart Maxine in 1953. The union was blessed with three children. Bob's business career began in 1952 with the Boeing Military Airplane Co. in the engineering department. He became skilled in engineering and drafting. After Boeing, he worked for several electrical contractors. Shelley Electric sent him to Denver Co. in 1959. In 1961 he began with Linder and Associates, Inc.During the 22 years there as an estimator/project manager he became executive vice president and owned stock in the company. In 1983 he started his own business Shields Electricon Inc. That business closed in 2013. Bob took flying lessons in 1975, completed his first solo flight in a Cessna 150, and received his private pilot certificate from Yingling Aircraft Inc. Bob enjoyed working in the yard and gardening, playing golf, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Bob lived a long and happy life filled with a loving family, meaningful work, and a deep connection to his faith and community. Bob was a member of Westwood Presbyterian Church and was very active in serving. Memorials can be contributed to Westwood Presbyterian Church. A Visitation will be held 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, January 27, 2023 at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. A Visitation, 10:00 am, and a Celebration of His Life, 11:00 am, will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 8001 West Maple, Wichita, KS.
