Roger Pierce Turner, 80, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away, August 25, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family.
He was born November 20, 1945, in Wichita to Pierce and Faye Turner. He was a graduate of Southeast High School and Wichita State University. Roger married Becky Slothower on July 18, 1970, in Wichita, KS.
Roger was a former Kansas state house legislator. He founded Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Sedgwick County in 1969 because he was passionate about bettering the lives of Wichita’s youth. Roger also served as Chairman of the Sedgwick County Board of Health, the Wichita Salvation Army board and the Wichita Art Museum board. He was a co-trustee of the Roland P. Murdock Collection of American Art, housed at the Wichita Art Museum.
Roger spent more than 50 years in the real estate appraisal business in south-central Kansas, founding Roger Turner Company in 1980. He was known throughout the Wichita market for his thoroughness, his handshake being as good as a contract, mentoring younger appraisers and worked right up until his passing.
Outside of work, Roger loved playing golf on the weekends with his son and friends. He was a long-time member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and attended bible studies regularly.
Roger was preceded in death by his father Pierce Turner; his mother, Faye Martin, his brother, Jack Turner; and his sister Sharon Combs. He is survived by his wife, Becky S. Turner of Wichita; daughter, Stephanie Turner of Chicago, IL; son Justin Turner (Leslie) of Edina, MN; grandchildren, Benjamin, Reese and Annie Turner of Edina, MN.
A memorial service will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 11:30AM at 1958 N. Webb Road. The service will be live streamed through the church’s website.

Although I left Wichita a number of years ago, he would welcome me in for a chat whenever I was back in town. I will always be grateful for the opportunity he afforded me and the guidance he provided to a young man at the start of his career. He was a man who lived his faith to the best of his abilities.
