Sherri Sanders, 68, Retired Administrative Assistant, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026, at home surrounded by family. Sherri faced her illness with remarkable grace and strength and determination.
Sherri was born in Pittsburg, Kansas on September 16, 1957, and moved to Wichita, Kansas at a very young age. She graduated from South High School in Wichita, Kansas, in 1975. She was known for her sweet and kind disposition, creativity, warmth, and deep love for her family. Sherri enjoyed card making, scrapbooking, and beading, and took great pride in attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and musical performances. She was a VERY enthusiastic fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and loved spending time going to NASCAR races with her husband. She especially cherished taking road trips to Texas to visit her son and his family, creating lasting memories along the way.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth L. Long; her mother, Leona M. Long; and her daughter, Elissa Frank.
Sherri is survived by her loving husband of nearly 36 years, Steven Sanders of Andover; her son, Justin (Stephanie) Pike of Weatherford, Texas; her daughter, Laura (Dee IV) Minnis of Derby; her brother, Kent (Valarie) Long of Wichita; and her cherished grandchildren, Grace (Bret) Anderson, Hannah Minnis, Noah Ellis, Nathan Ellis, Dee Minnis V, Hayden Pike, Abigail Minnis, and Madison Pike, and a host of extended close family and special lifelong friend, Patty Byerlee.
A memorial has been established with Victory in the Valley, 3755 E. Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67218.
Services are in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary – East Chapel.
