With faith and peace, Susan Smith, 77, returned to the Lord on July 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the promise of eternal life.
Susan lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, and service to others. She found great joy in attending chapel and spending time in prayer, always trusting God’s plan and sharing His love through her actions. She believed that every act of kindness mattered and quietly made the world a better place one person at a time.
Susan had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. She truly never met a stranger and would gladly give the shirt off her back to help someone in need—anyone, anytime, anywhere. Her generous heart, compassionate spirit, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She also found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Susan loved crafting beautiful handmade gifts, writing poetry, and creating heartfelt notes and messages that encouraged and uplifted family and friends. Her words reflected her gentle spirit and her deep love for those around her.
Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Smith; her parents, Andrew and Mary Marteney; and her siblings, William Marteney, Mike Marteney, Margaret Noe, and Tony Marteney.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Shannon (Eric) Howe, Tonya (Kevin) Osterbuhr, Brandon Smith, and Jesse Smith; her cherished grandchildren, Matthew Hunsberger Jr., Kaitlyn Osterbuhr, Zean Osterbuhr, Astra Howe, and Lucas Smith; her sister, Elaine (Roland “Nick”) Nickelson; sister-in-law, Diane Marteney; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives she touched.
A Rosary and visitation will be held at 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am on Friday, July 31, 2026, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 861 N. Socora, Wichita, KS 67212. Following the funeral mass, the burial will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, at 12:00 pm

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing Susan has returned to the Lord she loved so dearly. Her legacy of faith, generosity, compassion, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
