Tjaden, Theo Sue, age 90, died peacefully of age related illness at Larksfield Care Facility on October 20, 2006. One of nine children, Sue was born in Wichita to Orpha and Theodore Buxton on July 4, 1916. She was a graduate of East High School. She married Lyle Tjaden, a rancher and farmer, and together they moved to the family farm near Kechi. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly before Lyles death. Sues life made a difference. She was known as an energetic, hardworking, kind and generous member of her community. She was active in the Kechi United Methodist Church, where she served in leadership roles at the local and conference levels. She also was extremely active in community projects, including Farm Bureau, 4-H, Farm Ranch Club and Eastern Star. She served on the Boards of Wesley Hospital and Urban Ministries. Much to her familys amazement, she was still taking mission working trips to Kentucky and Mexico into her 80s. Sue is survived by her sisters, Bonnie Ashworth of Pueblo, CO and Marjorie Strickland of Wichita, her daughter, Brenda Thompson of Solana Beach, CA, her son, Paul Tjaden, of Groveland, FL and her son-in-law Richard West of Wichita. Her daughter, Judith West, preceded her in death on August 14, 2006. Sue was a loving grandmother to Barry Thompson, Los Angeles, CA, Grant Thompson, Boise, ID, Shelly Thompson, Ashland, OR, Mikael Tjaden, Nampa, ID, Jill Frank, Des Moines, IA, Peter West, Washington, DC, Leigh White, Atherton, CA, Kim Zarley, Des Moines, IA, and great grandchildren, Hunter and Seth Thompson, Los Angeles, Hope, Audrey and Owen Thompson, Boise, ID, Abigail, Rachel, Zachary and Emma Frank, Des Moines, IA, Jesse Hett, San Jose, CA, Lauren Howarth, Atherton, CA, and great-great grandchild Lilliana Maciel, Des Moines, IA. A memorial service in Sues honor will be held Saturday, October 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Kechi United Methodist Church.
